Week 3 already?!

Wow the last two weeks have flown by!!

We are getting really good at building our stamina in Daily 5.  We have reached 20 minutes in Read to Self and 6 minutes in Read to Someone.  Here is a video that Miss Tempero took of our whole learning team reading!

We also had some great learning team photos taken of us that afternoon.

We really enjoyed having Mr Lee join our classroom last week.  He is training to be a teacher in Korea.

We got our collage portraits finished last week and they are up on the wall looking amazing!

WEEK ONE!!

It has been a great week.
We have been getting really good at building our reading stamina up while reading independently in Daily 5.

In maths we have collected data (information) in statistics on the most common colour jellybeans in a packet - we couldn't believe that there was only 1 orange out of 291 jellybeans!  We found out that pink was the most common colour.
We then looked at what the most popular colour car was in Room18 families and found out that it was silver and graphed the results!  Did you know that apparently silver is the least common colour car to be involved in a crash?! We are going to do some more investigating next week and collect data on cars that drive past Halswell Road.

We read a really cool book about being different called 'The Hueys in The New Jumper' by Oliver Jeffers.
Here are our unique Hueys...

Today we started our mosaic/collage self portraits that we will be finishing next week.

We are very lucky to be big buddies to the brand new children in Room 1.  We enjoyed meeting them today and are going to make sure we are the best buddies!

Remember to vote for our new blog pet!  Have a happy weekend!

Term 3!

A new term busy term has begun!

We will be beginning our new topic tomorrow after morning tea.  I am looking forward to it! :)

We began practicing some multiplication facts this week, using marshmallows, fruit loops and tooth picks.

We read a book that had lots of idioms in it!  We learnt that an idioms have meanings that can't be figured out by looking up the words in the dictionary.  They have meanings that are understood by people who speak that language, but are very hard to understand for people who don't speak that language.

What other idioms can you think of?... at AnswerGarden.ch.

We have also been having a go at writing character descriptions.
See if you can find a character description in one of your books at home.
Write a sentence or two that you like, in your author notebooks.

See you tomorrow!

Week 3/4

The last three weeks have flown by!! We were lucky to have Emily from The Art Gallery come out to our class last week to do some printmaking with us. You should feel very proud of your amazing art!

We have also done a few science experiments - I think the flying teabag that Ms Sio did with you has been the favourite so far! Ms Sio also taught you a Samoan song 'Savalivali'.  We will need to keep practicing and put a video of you singing on our blog soon!

It has also been great to have 'Wonderings and Discoveries' back up and running! - which will definitely be a highlight of each week.

Our start to Term 2! on PhotoPeach

Wednesday is Olympic Day!  We are representing Jamaica so dig out any black, green or yellow!

Our first week of Term 2!

It has been a busy (yet short!) first week of the term!
It has been great having Ms Sio join our class.

Next week we will be scientists and will be doing some fun experiments!
We also will be starting 'Quadblogging' with three other classes (who are the same age as us) from the other side of the world.
I have put their class websites up on the right hand side of our blog.
We will be focusing on a class from Canada next week! :)

Below is the link to the Anzac website we looked at today.
